Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
