The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
