The skiing legend Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
